GSC Announces Tournament Brackets

The tournament brackets for Arkansas Tech’s swan song in the Gulf South Conference were released by the league office on Sunday.

Arkansas Tech will compete in both the Gulf South Conference Baseball Tournament and the Gulf South Conference Softball Tournament beginning on Friday, May 6.

The Golden Suns softball team will take on North Alabama at 11 a.m. Friday, while the Wonder Boys baseball team will face nationally top-ranked West Florida at 4:15 p.m. Friday.

Both tournaments are double elimination events.

River Valley Radio (KWKK 100.9 FM/KCAB 980 AM/KVLD 99.3 FM) will provide play-by-play coverage of the baseball and softball postseasons. Check back later for exact stations and Internet broadcast information.

The baseball tournament will be held in Millington, Tenn., while the softball tournament is scheduled to be played 29 miles to the south in Southaven, Miss.

This is the first year that Arkansas Tech has qualified for both of these events. In fact, Arkansas Tech qualified for GSC postseason play in every sport that requires a top-four finish in regular season play (volleyball, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, tennis, baseball and softball) during the 2010-11 academic year.

This marks the first time that Arkansas Tech has accomplished that feat, and it comes in the institution’s final year of membership in the GSC.

Arkansas Tech and eight other institutions will move forward to the new NCAA Division II Great American Conference in fall 2011.

The 2011 baseball and softball tournaments will mark Arkansas Tech’s final Gulf South Conference competitions. Tech has held membership in the GSC since 1995.
