Green and Gold Gives Back in a Big Way

More than 280 Arkansas Tech University students participated in the 2016 Green and Gold Give Back community service day on Saturday, Nov. 12.

Among the tasks they performed were picking up trash on roads and in parks around Russellville as well as raking and bagging leaves at the homes of several Arkansas Tech alumni. With assistance from Russellville Mayor Randy Horton, 200 bags of leaves were picked up and delivered to the appropriate facility for disposal.

Tech students also gave volunteer service at area non-profit organizations, including Equestrian Zone, Salvation Army, the Russellville Animal Shelter, Dardanelle Primary School and Bona Dea Trails and Sanctuary.

In all, volunteers representing 18 Arkansas Tech registered student organizations logged 890 service hours while serving 20 community organizations and alumni during 2016 Green and Gold Give Back.

Chartwells, food service provider at Arkansas Tech, made breakfast available to the volunteers on Saturday morning.

Green and Gold Give Back is sponsored and coordinated by the Arkansas Tech Office of Campus Life.
