Greek Community Receives Academic Award

The Arkansas Tech University Greek community has been named to the Gamma Sigma Alpha Regional Honor Roll for the 2009 calendar year.

Arkansas Tech University received the honor for both the fall and spring semesters in 2009.

Gamma Sigma Alpha is a national academic honor society that recognizes scholastic achievements among sorority and fraternity members, and to receive the award, the Arkansas Tech Greek community had to earn a higher cumulative grade point average (GPA) than the all-campus GPA.

Cindy Tesch, coordinator of Greek Life & Student Organizations, says the Greek community at Arkansas Tech continued their academic excellence this spring.  Tesch says during the recent semester, eight fraternities and sororities raised their grade point average from the previous semester.

“Academics is a founding value for fraternities and sororities here at Tech, and I am proud of our students for their commitment to their studies,” added Tesch.  “In addition to involvement within a fraternity or sorority, students are encouraged to manage their time in order to succeed academically as well.  I believe this is only the beginning of the great things our fraternities and sororities are capable of achieving.”
