On the day when they handed out the women’s golf trophies at the 2017 Great American Conference Championships, Arkansas Tech University leaned on a senior to grab the top prize.
Caroline Fredensborg shot an even-par 72 at Hot Springs Country Club on Tuesday to lift the Golden Suns to their third consecutive GAC women’s golf team championship.
Arkansas Tech finished with a 54-hole team total of 917 after rounds of 302-305-310. Henderson State University finished second with team scores of 307-302-312 and a 921 total.
Fredensborg’s final-round 72 was two strokes lower than anyone else in the field on Tuesday. She finished with a three-day total of 221 and sole possession of second place in the individual standings.
Pia Nunbhakdi (4th, 74-74-80-228), Avery Struck (T-7th, 75-76-81-232), Jessica Sachs (T-19th, 87-79-77-243) and Anna Frandsen (T-21st, 80-81-83-244) also contributed to the Golden Suns’ conference championship.
The individual title went to Southwestern Oklahoma State University’s Elin Wahlin (74-70-74-218).
Arkansas Tech will compete in the NCAA Division II Central Region Championships in Sioux Falls, S.D., May 8-10.
