SOSU Defeats Suns 8-2 in GAC Tourney

Southeastern Oklahoma State used a pair of home runs to defeat the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns 8-2 in the opening round of the Great American Conference Softball Tournament at the Tiger Athletic Complex in Bentonville on Thursday afternoon.

The Savage Storm (37-14) got a two-run home run from Sam Vrska in the first inning and a three-run home run from Whitney Hamilton in the sixth inning as they won for the 22nd time in their last 24 games.

Lindsay Lacy added two hits and two runs batted in for Southeastern Oklahoma State.

Victoria Huie and Alicia Zack led the Arkansas Tech attack with two hits apiece. Huie and Natalie Magie both had one RBI for the Golden Suns (15-30).

Southeastern Oklahoma State’s Audra Rhudy (24-9) was the winning pitcher. She allowed two runs on eight hits while recording eight strikeouts over six innings.

Kelsey Reding came out of the bullpen to get the final three outs for the Savage Storm.

Huie (9-12) took the loss. She was charged with eight runs on nine hits in six innings.

The Golden Suns will face East Central University in a GAC Tournament losers’ bracket game at 6 p.m. today (Thursday, April 26) in Bentonville.
