Golden Suns Roll Past Lady Muleriders

Arkansas Tech maintained a share of first place in the Gulf South Conference West Division volleyball standings by posting a shutout win over the Southern Arkansas Lady Muleriders at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville on Tuesday night.

The Golden Suns (22-4 overall, 7-1 GSC) defeated Southern Arkansas 25-15, 25-13, 25-17 to keep pace with Christian Brothers atop the GSC West.

CBU (14-10, 7-1) was pushed to the limit before escaping with a 16-25, 29-27, 25-21, 16-25, 15-13 home win over Ouachita Baptist on Tuesday night.

Arkansas Tech was led to victory by Laura Farney. She made 11 kills and four digs.

Sarah Von Lienen notched eight kills, Kera Dukic recorded 31 assists and Thabata Galvao made 11 digs for the Golden Suns.

Arkansas Tech had a .348 hitting percentage (42 kills, 11 attack errors, 89 total attempts), while Southern Arkansas hit just .053 (26 kills, 21 attack errors, 95 total attempts).

Becca Pate had seven kills and eight digs for the Lady Muleriders (12-11, 2-6).

The Golden Suns will visit Harding on Thursday. First serve for the match-up between GSC West Division title contenders is set for 7 p.m. Thursday at Rhodes Field House in Searcy.

The Lady Bisons (12-8, 6-1) are one-half match behind Tech and CBU for the GSC West Division lead. Harding defeated Lyon College 25-8, 25-17, 25-9 in non-conference play on Tuesday night.
