Arkansas Tech Wins GSC West Outright

Arkansas Tech clinched the Gulf South Conference West Division volleyball title outright and its sixth 30-win volleyball season by defeating Henderson State 25-16, 25-20, 25-18 at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville on Thursday night.

The Golden Suns (30-4 overall, 11-1 GSC) got big nights from all three of their seniors in their final appearance at Tucker Coliseum.

Senior Ashlynn Hamrick notched 13 kills, one shy of her season high. She made just two attack errors in 21 attempts for a .524 hitting percentage.

Sarah Von Lienen (photographed) added nine kills, three digs and three blocks in her final home match as a Golden Sun.

Their classmate, senior setter Kera Dukic, made 40 assists and 11 digs.

Junior Laura Farney helped send Tech’s seniors out with a win in their final regular season match by recording 11 kills and 14 digs.

The Golden Suns registered six service aces, three of which came from Thabata Galvao.

Robin Law had 16 kills and eight digs for Henderson State (14-13, 5-7).

The Golden Suns’ next match will be against the No. 4 seed from the GSC East Division, which will be either West Alabama or Alabama-Huntsville, in the first round of the GSC Tournament at Pensacola, Fla., on Friday, Nov. 12.
