Freshman pitcher Shelby Jo Fenter made her Arkansas Tech debut by tossing a two-hit shutout in a 2-0 Golden Suns’ softball victory over the East Central University Lady Tigers at the Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex on Monday.
Fenter (1-0) struck out seven and walked three as the Golden Suns opened their 2011 softball season with a victory.
Arkansas Tech third baseman Hayley Hudson provided the only scoring in the game with a two-run home run in the bottom of the third inning.
East Central bounced back to defeat the Golden Suns 8-1 in eight innings in the nightcap.
The Golden Suns (1-1) will participate in the University of Alabama in Huntsville Spring Softball Chiller Friday, Feb. 18, through Sunday, Feb. 20.
