Golden Suns Visit UMSL Saturday Afternoon

Arkansas Tech University will face its first road test of the 2016-17 women’s basketball season when the Golden Suns visit the University of Missouri-St. Louis Tritons for a non-conference contest on Saturday, Nov. 26.

It marks the beginning of three straight games away from home for Tech’s women. They will make a two-game swing through Oklahoma next week for Great American Conference games against Oklahoma Baptist University (5:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 1) and Southern Nazarene University (1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 3).

About the Golden Suns: Senior guard Kelsey McClure has stepped forward to serve as Arkansas Tech’s leading scorer through four games. McClure, who averaged 5.7 points per game in 2015-16, is averaging 15.3 points per contest so far in 2016-17. The Golden Suns rank among the NCAA Division II national leaders in rebound margin (9th, +16 per game) and field goal percentage defense (20th, .318).

About the Tritons: Missouri-St. Louis has won three of its first four games on the strength of its defense. The Tritons rank 18th in NCAA Division II in scoring defense (50.8 points allowed per game). UMSL is seeking its first winning season since it went 21-8 and reached the NCAA Division II Tournament in 2013-14. Junior center Jordan Fletcher (12.3 points per game) is the Tritons’ leading scorer.
