Golden Suns, Tritons Restart Season Sunday

Arkansas Tech University and the University of Missouri-St. Louis will return to women’s basketball action following the holiday break by staging a non-conference contest at Tucker Coliseum on Sunday, Dec. 30.

Tickets ($5 adults/$3 students and senior citizens) will be available at the door. Those with a valid ATU identification card will be admitted at no cost.

It will be the final non-conference game of the 2018-19 regular season for ATU basketball. The Golden Suns and the Wonder Boys will resume Great American Conference play on Thursday, Jan. 3, and Saturday, Jan. 5, with games at Southeastern Oklahoma State University and East Central University.

About the Golden Suns: Junior guard Hannah Villines helped send Arkansas Tech into the holiday break on a winning note with her most productive game as a Golden Sun. The Kingston product scored 23 points in an 81-57 win over Lane College on Dec. 16. Villines is in her first season at ATU after transferring from North Arkansas College, where she averaged 22.2 points per game as a sophomore in 2017-18. The Golden Suns defeated Missouri-St. Louis 63-54 on Nov. 26, 2016, in the only previous meeting between the two programs.

About the Tritons: Missouri-St. Louis is a member of NCAA Division II and the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Tritons were left out of the NCAA Tournament field in 2018 despite a 21-6 overall record and a 13-game winning streak to close out the regular season. It was their first 20-win season since 2013-14. UMSL defeated Oakland City 86-38 on Dec. 19 in its final game before the holiday break. The Tritons rank 302nd among the 307 members of NCAA Division II in field goal percentage defense (.455).
