Golden Suns to Scrimmage Saturday

Arkansas Tech head volleyball coach Kristy Bayer has scheduled a preseason intrasquad scrimmage for her team on Saturday, Aug. 27, at Tucker Coliseum.

First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m. Admission will be free and open to the public.

“Saturday will be about the little details like warm-up and game protocol,” said Bayer. “We will use it to get the girls prepared for a game-like situation and a game environment so they will feel more comfortable prior to our first game.”

The Golden Suns will open their season Sept. 2-3 at the Rockhurst Volleyball Classic in Kansas City, Mo.

Arkansas Tech was 31-5 overall and champion of the Gulf South Conference West Division in 2010. The Golden Suns return 12 letter winners from that team as they prepare for their first season of Great American Conference competition in 2011.

“We’re going to have a different look this year,” said Bayer. “We’ve always had good ball control, but I think this year that’s definitely going to be our strength. I don’t think many teams will get balls down on our side of the court. We also need to focus on getting more people involved offensively and spread that out a little more than it has been in the past.”
