Golden Suns Take Two From Lady Muleriders

Game One: Arkansas Tech 4, SAU 3 Samantha Herweck’s two-run double in the top of the sixth inning put Arkansas Tech in front for good in a 4-3 victory over Southern Arkansas in Saturday’s first game. Victoria Huie (6-2) was the winning pitcher. She limited the Lady Muleriders to two runs on seven hits over five innings. Kelsie Barker got the final six outs for her second save of the season. Courtney Colunga went 3-for-3 for the Golden Suns. Tech’s Whitney Robinson had an RBI double. Game Two: Arkansas Tech 9, SAU 7 Arkansas Tech took advantage of six Southern Arkansas errors and defeated the Lady Muleriders 9-7 in the nightcap on Saturday. A two-run home run by SAU’s Ashton Atwell in the bottom of the seventh inning allowed the Lady Muleriders to force extra innings. Kambri Hill regained the lead for Arkansas Tech in the top of the eighth when she scored on a Southern Arkansas throwing error. Chelsea Reeves followed with an RBI single to give the Golden Suns a 9-7 edge. A pair of base hits in the bottom of the eighth put the tying run on base for the Lady Muleriders, but Tech’s Barker recorded a fly out and a strikeout to end the game and secure her third save of the season. Morgan Vaughan (5-1) was the winning pitcher. She allowed seven runs on nine hits over seven innings. Alex Edinger and Jalissa Gum had three base hits apiece for the Golden Suns. Colunga and Shanna Davidson both had two hits for Tech.]]>
