Golden Suns Take the Shine Off OBU

Ouachita Baptist entered Tucker Coliseum on Tuesday night as one of just seven undefeated NCAA Division II volleyball teams. By the time Arkansas Tech was done with the Lady Tigers, that number was down to six.

The Golden Suns (13-3 overall, 1-0 Gulf South Conference) swept Ouachita Baptist 25-15, 25-14, 25-15 to end the Lady Tigers’ 11-match winning streak to begin the 2010 season.

Arkansas Tech’s offensive attack was next to unstoppable on Tuesday. The Golden Suns made 52 kills against just nine attack errors in 109 attempts for a .394 hitting percentage.

The only time that Tech has posted a better hitting percentage so far this season was against Champion Baptist on Sept. 13 when the Suns hit .500.

Tech’s Laura Farney notched 12 kills and 11 digs for her eighth double-double of the season.

Sarah Von Lienen had 10 kills, Kera Dukic made 45 assists and eight digs, Brennae Benda recorded 16 digs and Thabata Galvao contributed 10 digs in the win.

Kelly O’Malley added 11 kills for the Suns, her second consecutive match in double figures in that statistical category.

Kristyn Howk and Faith Avalos led Ouachita Baptist (11-1, 0-1) with seven kills apiece.

Arkansas Tech will put its eight-match winning streak on the line Thursday night when it visits Southern Arkansas for a 7 p.m. GSC match at the W.T. Watson Athletic Center in Magnolia.
