Golden Suns Take Four From Lady Bison

Arkansas Tech University vaulted into third place in the Great American Conference softball standings by sweeping a four-game series from Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Okla., on Thursday and Friday.

The Golden Suns (18-12 overall, 12-6 GAC) defeated the Lady Bison 10-4, 6-1, 8-3 and 14-2.

ATU freshman Tymber Riley went 7-for-11 and had an on-base percentage of .765 during the series. She was subsequently named GAC co-player of the week.

Bailey Shaffer (6-4) and Kristen Dempsey (5-3) both earned two pitching victories in the circle for the Golden Suns.

Megan Goodnight collected six base hits during the series to bring her career total to 218. She stands four hits away from matching and five away from surpassing the school record, which was established by Tiphani Moon when she recorded 222 base hits from 2008-11.

Arkansas Tech will host Harding University for a GAC doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26. Admission to the Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex in Russellville will be free.
