Golden Suns Stay Undefeated in GAC Play

Arkansas Tech maintained sole possession of first place in the Great American Conference volleyball standings with a straight sets win over the Ouachita Baptist Lady Tigers at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville on Tuesday night.

The Golden Suns (22-3 overall, 9-0 GAC) defeated the Lady Tigers 25-17, 25-17, 25-12 to remain undefeated in league play and extend their home winning streak to 15 consecutive matches.

Sara Motsinger (photographed) notched 11 kills and Amber Cerrillos recorded 38 assists for Arkansas Tech. Laura Farney, Brittany Ryan and Carly Florian added seven kills apiece.

Farney had a team-high 20 digs and Ryan made five blocks. Brennae Benda contributed 17 digs and Taylor Brown pitched in 13 digs for the Golden Suns, who held Ouachita Baptist to a .033 team hitting percentage.

Lexie Hegi led the Lady Tigers (12-11, 3-6) with 20 assists and 11 digs.

The Golden Suns wore special edition red, white and blue jerseys on Tuesday.

The jerseys were sold through a silent auction to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project, a nationwide initiative that is the primary charitable beneficiary for the Arkansas Tech Department of Athletics during the 2011-12 academic year.

The silent auction raised $1,100 for the Wounded Warrior Project.

Arkansas Tech will visit Henderson State for a 7 p.m. GAC match at the Duke Wells Center in Arkadelphia on Thursday, Oct. 13.
