Golden Suns Stay Unbeaten in GAC Play

Arkansas Tech drew closer to the inaugural Great American Conference regular season volleyball championship by defeating the East Central University Tigers 25-23, 25-20, 25-22 at the Kerr Activities Center in Ada, Okla., on Tuesday night.

The Golden Suns (29-3 overall, 13-0 GAC) can clinch the 2011 GAC volleyball title if they defeat the Harding Lady Bisons (20-6, 11-2) at Rhodes Field House in Searcy on Thursday night. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The GAC regular season champion will earn the privilege of hosting the GAC Volleyball Tournament Nov. 11-12.

Amber Cerrillos (photographed) and Laura Farney both had double-doubles on Tuesday to lead Arkansas Tech to its 12th consecutive victory.

Cerrillos notched 36 assists and 10 digs. She also had three service aces. Farney recorded 14 kills and 12 digs.

Sara Motsinger added 11 kills, while Thabata Galvao and Brittany Ryan made four blocks apiece for the Golden Suns.

Shayla May was credited with 29 assists and 10 digs for East Central (10-15, 6-7).
