The Arkansas Tech Golden Suns are ranked No. 4 in the NCAA Division II South Region women’s basketball poll for a second consecutive week.
The Golden Suns (25-2) seem to be locked into no worse than a No. 4 seed in the NCAA Division II Tournament South Regional, which will be played March 12-15.
The announcement of the field for the NCAA Tournament and the location for the NCAA Division II South Regional will be made on Sunday night.
Arkansas Tech will host a watch party for the unveiling of the women’s and men’s brackets at the W.O. Young Building Game Room beginning at 8:30 p.m. Sunday.
Fort Valley State (26-2) is ranked No. 1 in the NCAA Division II South Region, but that could change between now and Sunday. Stillman College stunned the FVSU Lady Wildcats 72-68 in the quarterfinals of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament on Wednesday night.
Among the teams that are ranked right behind Fort Valley State and could benefit from its upset loss are Delta State (2nd, 23-2), Tampa (3rd, 25-3) and Arkansas Tech.
Rollins College (5th, 20-8), Valdosta State (6th, 18-7), Barry (7th, 20-8), Florida Southern (8th, 19-9), Harding (9th, 16-11) and Lynn (10th, 17-10) round out this week’s women’s regional poll.
The Suns have one last opportunity to improve upon their seed for the NCAA Tournament this weekend in the Gulf South Conference Tournament.
Tech will face West Florida (14-13) in the first round of the GSC Tournament at 2:45 p.m. Thursday.
