Golden Suns Remain 5th in National Poll

Arkansas Tech University is ranked among the top 10 NCAA Division II women’s basketball teams in the nation for a 14th consecutive week.

The Golden Suns (7-1) remained No. 5 in the USA Today/ESPN NCAA Division II top 25 poll for the week of Dec. 14. The poll was released by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association on Tuesday afternoon.

It is the 18th consecutive NCAA Division II women’s basketball top 25 that has included Arkansas Tech. The Golden Suns’ streak in the national poll now dates back more than a full calendar year to Dec. 8, 2009, when they entered the rankings at No. 24.

Tech maintained its current ranking of No. 5 by defeating Lambuth University 69-39 on Saturday, Dec. 11. Natalia Santos (photographed) had 14 points and 13 rebounds and Katie Horsman added 10 points in the victory.

The Golden Suns will play two home games against Gulf South Conference East Division members this week.

Arkansas Tech will host Alabama-Huntsville at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 16, and North Alabama at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 17.

Tickets will be available at the door. Those with a valid Tech identification card will be admitted free of charge.

The Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys will host the nationally sixth-ranked Alabama-Huntsville men and the North Alabama men as the second half of doubleheaders on both Thursday and Friday.

Russellville radio station KWKK 100.9 FM and www.athletics.atu.edu will have live coverage of all four games this week.
