Golden Suns Pursue NCAA Tournament Berth

Arkansas Tech University will attempt to earn a place in the NCAA Division II Volleyball Tournament for the fourth time in the last five seasons when it participates in the Great American Conference Tournament at Bank of the Ozarks Arena in Hot Springs beginning on Thursday, Nov. 19.

Head coach Kristy Bayer and the Golden Suns (25-6) are the No. 1 seed in the GAC Tournament after winning the 12th regular season conference title in Arkansas Tech volleyball history.

Tech’s first-round opponent is No. 8 seed Southeastern Oklahoma State University (7-22). The Suns defeated the Savage Storm 18-25, 25-23, 25-23, 28-26 on Oct. 8 in their only regular season meeting.

First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m. Thursday. Live coverage will be provided by www.gacsportsnetwork.com.

Arkansas Tech has won 19 of its last 20 matches. If the Golden Suns make it 20-of-21 on Thursday, they will advance to the GAC Tournament semifinals at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 20.

The championship match is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 21. The winner of Sunday’s match will earn a berth in the NCAA Tournament. Arkansas Tech has previously qualified for NCAA national postseason volleyball competition in 2000, 2011, 2013, and 2014.
