Golden Suns Go 2-2 in Florida

Arkansas Tech picked up two wins and suffered two defeats during the 2010 Sharks Volleyball Classic at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., this weekend.

The Golden Suns defeated the University of District Columbia 25-11, 25-15, 25-17 on Friday morning. On Saturday afternoon, Tech knocked off tournament host Nova Southeastern 25-19, 17-25, 25-19, 25-19.

In between, the Suns suffered losses to Lynn University, which defeated Tech 25-20, 16-25, 25-19, 25-15 on Friday afternoon; and Barry University, which captured a back-and-forth match against the Suns by scores of 16-25, 25-22, 25-21, 14-25, 15-10.

Laura Farney led Tech in kills (51) during the classic. She also had 45 digs and seven blocks over the course of four matches.

Sarah Von Lienen added 50 kills and 10 blocks in Florida, while Kera Dukic (photographed) recorded 154 assists and Brennae Benda made 69 digs.

The Golden Suns (6-3) will play their first home matches of the season on Monday. Tech will face Champion Baptist at 3 p.m. and Lyon College at 7 p.m.

Both matches will be played at Tucker Coliseum and admission will be free.
