Golden Suns Open Title Defense Thursday

Arkansas Tech University will seek its second consecutive Great American Conference Volleyball Tournament championship during the 2012 edition of the event beginning on Thursday, Nov. 15, at Rhodes Field House in Searcy.

Arkansas Tech University will seek its second consecutive Great American Conference Volleyball Tournament championship during the 2012 edition of the event beginning on Thursday, Nov. 15, at Rhodes Field House in Searcy.

The Golden Suns (25-9) enter the GAC Tournament as the No. 2 seed. Arkansas Tech will face seventh-seeded University of Arkansas at Monticello in a first-round match at 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

Arkansas Tech defeated UA-Monticello three times during the 2012 regular season. The Suns defeated the Cotton Blossoms 3-0 in the first round of the 2011 postseason league tournament. Tech went on to defeat East Central University in the semifinals and Harding University in the championship match to win the inaugural GAC Volleyball Tournament.

The winner of Thursday’s Tech-UAM match will advance to a 3:30 p.m. semifinal match on Friday, Nov. 16. The championship match is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17.

Harding University, regular season champion of the GAC, is serving as tournament host.
