Golden Suns Open Season With Two Wins

Arkansas Tech University picked up a pair of season-opening, four-set volleyball wins at the Christian Brothers University Invitational in Memphis, Tenn., on Friday.

The Golden Suns (2-0) defeated the Lincoln Memorial Lady Railsplitters 25-20, 25-16, 23-25, 27-25 and then knocked off the Tiffin University Dragons 25-11, 25-19, 19-25, 25-22.

Arkansas Tech’s Sara Motsinger had a career-high 22 kills in the win over Lincoln Memorial. Carly Florian and Kaci Jackson added 11 kills apiece. Brittany Ryan had nine kills and four blocks, while Amber Cerrillos made 43 assists and 10 digs. Morgan McKellar recorded a match-high 20 digs.

Motsinger (12 kills) and Jackson (11 kills) paced the Golden Suns’ attach in their win over Tiffin. Jackson also had five service aces. Cerrillos was credited with 39 assists and McKellar notched 16 digs in the nightcap.

Arkansas Tech will face West Georgia at 10 a.m. and Christian Brothers at 4 p.m. during the second and final day of action at the CBU Invitational on Saturday.
