Golden Suns Open Season With 30-Point Win

Arkansas Tech University began its 40th season of intercollegiate women’s basketball with an 81-51 non-conference victory over Lane College at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville on Saturday.

The nationally 25th-ranked Golden Suns (1-0) earned a 56-31 rebounding edge over the Lady Dragons (0-1). Arkansas Tech collected 22 offensive rebounds and finished with a 27-6 advantage in second-chance points.

Cheyenne North led the Suns with 13 points and eight rebounds. Ryann Goodsell and Brianna Williams added 12 points apiece, while Danielle Frachiseur notched nine points and eight rebounds.

Lane’s Addie McNeely scored a game-high 20 points on 7-of-17 shooting from the field.

Arkansas Tech will begin the Great American Conference portion of its 2016-17 women’s basketball schedule by hosting Southwestern Oklahoma State University for a 5:30 p.m. contest at Tucker Coliseum on Thursday, Nov. 17.
