Golden Suns Open 39th Basketball Season

Preseason Great American Conference favorite and nationally 18th-ranked Arkansas Tech University will begin its 39th season of intercollegiate women’s basketball by hosting Lane College for a non-conference contest on Saturday, Nov. 14.

The Golden Suns return their top three scorers from a year ago — senior forward Fatima Adams (21.7 points per game), junior guard Anissa Pounds (13.2 points per game) and senior guard Katrina Hayden (9.8 points per game).

Dave Wilbers returns for his ninth season as the head women’s basketball coach at Arkansas Tech.

About the Golden Suns: Arkansas Tech was 23-7 overall and regular season co-champion of the Great American Conference during the 2014-15 season. The Golden Suns earned an at-large bid to the 2015 NCAA Division II Tournament. Tech played one exhibition game in preparation for the 2015-16 season, a 98-86 win over Dallas Diesel on Sunday. Arkansas Tech was 10-of-24 (44 percent) from 3-point range, and it finished with a 54-41 rebounding edge. Five Golden Suns reached double figures in scoring, led by Fatima Adams with 19 points. Danielle Frachiseur came off the bench to notch 16 points. Adams and Frachiseur tied for game-high honors in rebounds with 13 apiece. Bre Brooks and Calli White added 12 points apiece for Arkansas Tech, while Caroline Eubanks contributed 10 points.

About the Lady Dragons: Lane College, a member of NCAA Division II and the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, was 5-19 overall during the 2014-15 season. The Lady Dragons are under the direction of first-year head coach Kimberly Anderson.
