Golden Suns Improve to 10-2 at Home

Arkansas Tech University slugged its way to a 3-of-4 games series victory over Oklahoma Baptist University in Great American Conference softball at the Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex in Russellville on Friday and Saturday.

The Golden Suns (23-9 overall, 14-6 GAC) will visit Ada, Okla., for a four-game GAC series against East Central University on Friday, March 30, and Saturday, March 31.

First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday.

Game One: OBU 3, Tech 0

Katie Long tossed a five-hit shutout to lead Oklahoma Baptist to a 3-0 victory over Arkansas Tech in the series opener on Friday.

Long (5-2) induced 18 fly outs among the 21 batters she retired.

Game Two: Tech 7, OBU 2

Janie Knowles and Sarah Coronado had two runs batted in apiece to help Arkansas Tech earn a 7-2 win over Oklahoma Baptist in Friday’s nightcap.

Kristen Dempsey (6-2) went the distance in the circle for the Golden Suns. She limited the Lady Bison to two runs on seven hits over seven innings.

Game Three: Tech 9, OBU 1

Seven Arkansas Tech hitters recorded at least one RBI apiece in a 9-1 Golden Suns’ victory against Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday.

Bailey Bunch and Ashton Sangster led the way. They both drove in two runs.

Tech starting pitcher Megan Goodnight (7-1) allowed one run on four hits in four innings. Bailey Shaffer got the final three outs. The game was stopped after five innings due to the mercy rule.

Game Four: Tech 14, OBU 6

Paty Loredo went 4-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs in a 14-6 Arkansas Tech triumph over Oklahoma Baptist in the series finale on Saturday.

Goodnight was 3-for-4 with three RBIs, while Knowles hit a two-run home run.

Shaffer (7-1) pitched two and two-thirds innings of relief to earn the win in the circle. The game was stopped after five innings due to the mercy rule.
