Golden Suns Host Lady Choctaws Tuesday

It will be a match-up of undefeated women’s basketball teams when Arkansas Tech University welcomes Mississippi College to Russellville for a non-conference contest on Tuesday, Nov. 21.

Tickets ($5 adults/$3 students and senior citizens) will be available at the Tucker Coliseum ticket office. Those with a valid ATU identification card will be admitted free of charge.

After Tuesday, the Golden Suns will be idle until they host Southwestern Oklahoma State University on Thursday, Nov. 30.

About the Golden Suns: Arkansas Tech has won its first three games by an average margin of 20.3 points, including double-digit Great American Conference wins at East Central University (84-74) and Southeastern Oklahoma State University (78-64) last weekend. Senior forward Cheyenne North (13.7 points per game), junior guard Kylie Ladd (12.7 points per game) and freshman guards Jayana Sanders and Ke’Vonshaye Stackhouse (12.3 points per game apiece) are the Golden Suns’ leading scorers.

About the Lady Choctaws: Mississippi College has toppled Southern University-New Orleans 74-57 and LeMoyne-Owen College 80-79 in its first two outings of the season. Five Lady Choctaws average double figures in scoring, led by sophomore guard Zariah Matthews (15 points per game). ATU defeated Mississippi College 68-52 and 85-73 during the 1995-96 season, their lone season as fellow members of the Gulf South Conference. MC moved to NCAA Division III status at the end of that academic year, only to return to NCAA Division II and the GSC in 2013.
