Golden Suns Hope to Start a New Streak

Perhaps the best medicine after a disappointing loss is an opportunity to get right back on the court and compete. Arkansas Tech’s volleyball team will have that chance tonight (Thursday, Oct. 7).

The Golden Suns (18-4 overall, 3-1 Gulf South Conference) will host Arkansas-Monticello for a 7 p.m. match at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville. Admission will be free, and fans are invited to wear their favorite camouflage gear as part of a “Camo Night” promotion.

Arkansas Tech saw its 13-match winning streak come to an end Tuesday with a 25-21, 25-23, 25-19 loss to Christian Brothers.

The win allowed the Lady Buccaneers (10-10, 4-1) to take sole possession of first place in the GSC West by a half-match over Tech, Henderson State and Harding.

Arkansas-Monticello (1-16, 0-4) lost its first 14 matches of the season before registering a 25-17, 25-19, 25-23 victory over East Central University during the Arkansas Tech Hampton Inn Invitational in Russellville last Saturday.

The Cotton Blossoms were 2-0 against Arkansas Tech last season, and UA-Monticello has reached the GSC Tournament in three of the last four years.

This year has been a different story for the Blossoms. They rank last in the GSC West in hitting percentage, opponent hitting percentage, assists, kills, blocks and service aces.

The Golden Suns lead the GSC West in hitting percentage, opponent hitting percentage, assists and kills.
