Golden Suns Hold Off Lady Bison 75-66

Arkansas Tech University fought off a comeback bid by Oklahoma Baptist University to earn a 75-66 Great American Conference win at the Noble Complex in Shawnee, Okla., on Thursday night.

The Golden Suns (5-1 overall, 2-1 GAC) led by as many as 13 points late in the first half and 39-29 at the intermission.

Oklahoma Baptist rallied to cut Tech’s advantage to 51-48 after three quarters, and the Lady Bison (3-5, 0-3) took the lead on four occasions in the first four minutes of the fourth quarter.

Back-to-back 3-pointers by Anissa Pounds gave the Golden Suns a 64-61 lead with 4:59 remaining.

Oklahoma Baptist forged the eighth and final tie of the night at 64-64 at the 3:50 mark of the fourth quarter. Arkansas Tech responded with a game-ending 11-2 run, a spurt that was sparked by a Ryan Goodsell basket with 3:35 left.

The Golden Suns sealed their fourth consecutive win by making 5-of-6 free throws over the final 33.7 seconds.

Cheyenne North scored a bucket during that decisive 11-2 run. It was part of her season-high 20 points. North also grabbed eight rebounds.

Pounds finished with 18 points and seven rebounds, while Tech’s Calli White contributed 13 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals. Danielle Frachiseur chipped in 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Lexi Williams paced the Lady Bison with 14 points.
