Golden Suns Golfers Win by 117 Strokes

Arkansas Tech’s women’s golf team posted its best 36-hole score of the spring season and dominated a three-team field at the Southern Arkansas University Invitational on Monday and Tuesday.

The Golden Suns had team scores of 322 and 329 to finish with a total of 651, which was 117 strokes better than runner-up Southern Arkansas (383-385-768). Arkansas-Monticello (471-483-954) finished third.

It was the second tournament victory in as many weeks for the Golden Suns. Tech won the Lyon College Invitational March 29-30.

The five golfers that contributed to Arkansas Tech’s team score finished No. 1 through No. 5 in the individual standings.

Ana Morales won her second consecutive individual title with scores of 79 and 78 for a 157 total. Kyla McIsaac (2nd, 77-84-161), Alyssia DuVall (3rd, 80-86-166), Megan Kelley (4th, 86-85-171) and Niki Possage (5th, 92-82-174) completed the Golden Suns’ clean sweep of the top five.

Ashley Gourley (7th, 91-89-180) represented Arkansas Tech as an individual.

The Golden Suns will compete in the Natural State Golf Classic April 12-13 in Heber Springs.

It will be Tech’s final tune-up for the Gulf South Conference Tournament. The women’s portion of that event is scheduled for April 18-19 at Hot Springs Country Club.
