Golden Suns Go 4-0 in Huntsville

Arkansas Tech completed an undefeated run through the 2011 University of Alabama in Huntsville Country Inn and Suites Volleyball Invitational by defeating Christian Brothers and Alabama-Huntsville on Saturday.

The Golden Suns (7-1) beat the CBU Lady Buccaneers 25-19, 25-17, 23-25, 25-22 in their first match of the day.

Thabata Galvao had 14 kills, 13 digs and four blocks in the win. Kelly O’Malley added 12 kills and Amber Cerrillos made 41 assists.

Arkansas Tech completed its portion of the event by knocking off the host UAH Chargers 25-18, 25-14, 25-27, 25-22 later in the day on Saturday.

Laura Farney led all players with 22 kills. O’Malley recorded 11 kills, Cerrillos had 51 assists and 14 digs and Brennae Benda (photographed) registered 13 digs. Sara Motsinger collected six blocks.

Arkansas Tech has won seven consecutive matches. The Suns also defeated West Georgia and Cedarville University while they were in Huntsville.

The Golden Suns will play their first Great American Conference match ever when they take on the Ouachita Baptist Lady Tigers in Arkadelphia at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 13.

Tech will play its first home match of the season and its first home GAC match when it hosts Henderson State at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 15. Admission to Tucker Coliseum will be free.
