Golden Suns Go 2-2 During Spikefest

Arkansas Tech saw its 25-match home volleyball winning streak come to an end and the Golden Suns went 2-2 during the 2012 Hampton Inn Arkansas Tech Spikefest at Tucker Coliseum on Friday and Saturday. 

Lindenwood University defeated Arkansas Tech 24-26, 25-21, 28-26, 19-25, 15-12 on Friday afternoon in the Golden Suns’ first match of the weekend.

It was Tech’s first home volleyball loss since Oct. 5, 2010, when Christian Brothers University defeated the Golden Suns at Tucker Coliseum.

Arkansas Tech bounced back to defeat the University of Arkansas at Monticello 25-17, 25-16, 25-19 later in the day on Friday.

Brittany Ryan notched 12 kills, while Sara Motsinger and Carly Florian had 11 kills apiece in the win.

The Golden Suns suffered their second five-set loss of the weekend on Saturday afternoon when McKendree University came from behind to defeat Tech 12-25, 15-25, 25-19, 25-19, 17-15.

Just as they did on Friday, the Suns bounced back to win their second match of the day.

Arkansas Tech slipped past Central Oklahoma 25-21, 22-25, 20-25, 25-20, 16-14 on Saturday night.

Florian made a career-high 23 kills and Tech’s Amber Cerrillos had a season-high 59 assists in the victory.

Motsinger notched 14 kills. Ryan had 13 kills and eight blocks. Taylor Brown added a career-high 22 digs for the Golden Suns.

Arkansas Tech (6-3) will open Great American Conference volleyball play when it visits UA-Monticello for a 7 p.m. match in Monticello on Tuesday, Sept. 11.
