Golden Suns Glide Past Lady Tigers

Arkansas Tech opened the home portion of its 2010 volleyball season with a 25-6, 25-8, 25-6 victory over the Champion Baptist Lady Tigers at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville on Monday afternoon.

The Golden Suns (7-3) recorded 25 kills against only three attack errors in 44 attempts. Champion Baptist had five kills and 18 attack errors in its 51 attempts.

Tech was especially dangerous on its serve. The Suns recorded 26 service aces, while the Lady Tigers had just one ace.

Carly Florian led Tech with seven kills. She also had six service aces.

Casey Loper (photographed) added five kills and four digs.

Amber Cerrillos notched 19 assists and seven aces for the Suns. Lindsay Layes had a team-high six digs.

Arkansas Tech head coach Kristy Bayer rested many of her veterans, including Sarah Von Lienen, Laura Farney, Ashlynn Hamrick and Kera Dukic.

Arkansas Tech will play its second match of the day at 7 p.m. tonight when it hosts Lyon College in further non-conference action.

Admission to Tucker Coliseum will be free.
