Arkansas Tech University finished second among 11 women’s cross country teams in the 2017 University of Central Arkansas Cross Country Challenge in Conway on Saturday morning.
The Golden Suns placed five runners among the top 28 finishers to accumulate a team score of 80, putting them ahead of fellow NCAA Division II members such as Delta State University (3rd, 94), University of Arkansas-Fort Smith (6th, 145) and University of Arkansas-Monticello (11th, 288).
ATU also finished in front of NCAA Division I members Oral Roberts University (4th, 98), University of Arkansas-Little Rock (5th, 122) and University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff (10th, 261). UCA won the team title with a score of 18.
Cami Hedstrom was the Golden Suns’ top individual finisher. She covered the 4-kilometer course in 18 minutes, 22.8 seconds to finish 10th. Eighty-three runners completed the course.
Aubre Gilreath (13th, 18:40.1), Halle Gilreath (14th, 18:42.6), Mallory Morris (24th, 19:12.7), Logan Edwards (28th, 19:29.9), Lauryn Doublet (33rd, 19:41.4), Adrianna Simmons (64th, 24:41.8) and Amanda Thompson (66th, 24:57.3) also competed for Tech on Saturday.
Arkansas Tech will run in the Missouri Southern Stampede on Saturday, Sept. 16, in Joplin, Mo.
