Golden Suns Finish Second in Arizona

Three Arkansas Tech University players finished in the top 12 of the individual standings and the Golden Suns were runners-up in the team standings at the Western New Mexico University Fall Intercollegiate women’s golf tournament, which was played on Monday and Tuesday at the Golf Club of Estrella in Goodyear, Ariz.

Peerada Piddon (T-4th, 77-70-147), Avery Struck (T-9th, 76-73-149) and Pia Nunbhakdi (T-12th, 77-74-151) were Tech’s top individual finishers.

Their play helped the Golden Suns return team scores of 307-299 for a 606 total, one stroke more than tournament champion California State University-San Marcos (302-303-605). A total of 16 teams competed in the tournament.

Holly Standing (T-34th, 77-82-159) and Makenzie Douglas (T-47th, 79-83-162) also represented Arkansas Tech at the WNMU Fall Intercollegiate. ATU’s Allie Weiner (T-47th, 82-80-162) competed as an individual.

The Golden Suns will compete in the University of Central Oklahoma RCB Classic in Edmond, Okla., on Monday, Oct. 2, and Tuesday, Oct. 3.
