A 22-stroke improvement from the first round to the second round vaulted Arkansas Tech University to a third-place finish among a field of 21 women’s golf teams in the Central Region Spring Preview at Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield, Mo., on Monday and Tuesday.
The Golden Suns bounced back from a first-round score of 322 to post a team score of 300 on Tuesday and finish with a two-day total of 622. Tech’s second-round total was the lowest 18-hole team score in the history of the tournament.
Northeastern State University won the team title with a 36-hole total of 615.
Pia Nunbhakdi was the Golden Suns’ top individual finisher. She shot 74-75 for a 149 total and sole possession of fourth place.
Anna Frandsen (T-12th, 83-72-155), Jessica Sachs (T-23rd, 81-76-157), Avery Struck (T-35th, 84-77-161) and Caroline Fredensborg (T-66th, 91-78-169) also contributed to Arkansas Tech’s team score.
The Golden Suns will compete in the Great American Conference Championships April 23-25 at Hot Springs Country Club. Arkansas Tech is the defending GAC champion in women’s golf.
