Surtevall Takes GAC Women's Golf Title

Arkansas Tech University’s Rebecka Surtevall won the individual title and the Golden Suns earned a runner-up finish in the team standings at the inaugural Great American Conference Women’s Golf Championships, which were contested Sunday-Tuesday at Hot Springs Country Club.

Surtevall fired a final-round 75 to come from behind and clip Harding University’s Becca Godman by a single stroke. Surtevall’s rounds of 80-77-75 gave her a 54-hole total of 232, while Godman returned scores of 79-77-77 for a 233 total.

A freshman from Sweden, Surtevall earned her third individual title of the 2011-12 women’s golf season.

Taylor Kline (T-3rd, 83-77-79-239), Elizabeth Sweetnam (T-7th, 83-82-79-244), Megan Jeffery (18th, 84-86-82-252) and Niki Possage (21st, 87-86-84-257) also contributed to Arkansas Tech’s runner-up finish in the team standings.

The Golden Suns posted team scores of 330-322-315 for a 54-hole total of 967 during the GAC Championships. Harding University won the GAC women’s golf title with a 956 total. The Lady Bisons shot 318-318-320.

Southwestern Oklahoma State University (3rd, 341-325-325-991), Henderson State University, (4th, 328-332-339-999), East Central University (5th, 350-341-331-1,022), Ouachita Baptist University (6th, 386-377-385-1,148), the University of Arkansas at Monticello (7th, 406-421-406-1,233) and Southern Arkansas University (8th, 427-425-409-1,261) rounded out the field.
