Women's Golf 2nd in First Spring Outing

Arkansas Tech’s women’s golf team used a sensational final round to finish second among a 15-team field at the 2011 Pepsi Lion Invitational hosted by Texas A&M University-Commerce at Tanglewood Golf Course in Pottsboro, Texas.

The Golden Suns posted a final-round team score of 329 to move from a share of fifth place after day one into the runner-up position. Arkansas Tech shot 344 in the first round and had a 36-hole total of 673.

The University of the Incarnate Word (336-321-657) won the tournament. Missouri-St. Louis (3rd, 344-331-675), Texas A&M-Commerce (4th, 335-341-676), Cameron University (T-5th, 342-338-680) and East Central University (T-5th, 341-339-680) rounded out the top five.

Ana Morales was the Golden Suns’ top individual finisher. She shot 83-79 for a 36-hole score of 162 and sole possession of seventh place.

Kyla McIsaac (T-15th, 87-81-168), Niki Possage (T-23rd, 89-82-171), Elizabeth Sweetnam (T-31st, 88-87-175) and Alyssia Duvall (T-37th, 86-90-176) also helped Arkansas Tech to a runner-up finish.

The Golden Suns will continue their spring golf season March 28-29 at the Southern Arkansas Invitational.
