Golden Suns Earn Saturday Sweep

Arkansas Tech University won both ends of a Great American Conference softball doubleheader against Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, Okla., on Saturday.

The Golden Suns (27-15 overall, 21-9 GAC) will host the University of Arkansas-Monticello Cotton Blossoms for a four-game GAC series at the Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex in Russellville on Friday, April 14, and Saturday, April 15.

First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday. Admission will be free. Radio station KARV 101.3 FM/610 FM and www.arkansastechsports.com will provide live coverage.

Game One: Tech 9, SOSU 1

Jalissa Gum pitched a complete game, hit a home run and drove in three runs to lead Arkansas Tech to a 9-1 victory over Southeastern Oklahoma State in Saturday’s first game.

Gum (12-8) limited the Savage Storm to one run on six hits. She struck out eight Southeastern Oklahoma State hitters over seven innings.

Tech’s Gaby Vasquez and Sarah Coronado were both 3-for-4 with an RBI. Cara Tolar, Ashton Sangster and Megan Goodnight added two hits apiece. Goodnight drove in two runs.

Game Two: Tech 4, SOSU 0

Tolar and Morgan Vaughan combined to pitch a five-hit shutout and Arkansas Tech defeated Southeastern Oklahoma State 4-0 in the series finale.

Sangster broke a scoreless tie with a two-run home run in the top of the third inning. Coronado and Vasquez added an RBI each later in the inning to set what proved to be the final score.

Tolar (4-3) allowed four hits in four innings of work in the circle. Vaughan limited the Savage Storm to one hit over the final three innings to earn her fifth save of 2017.
