The 35th season of Arkansas Tech University intercollegiate women’s basketball ended on Sunday night when the Golden Suns did not receive an at-large bid to the 2012 NCAA Division II Tournament.
Arkansas Tech was ranked No. 6 in the final NCAA Division II South Central Region rankings of the regular season, but the Golden Suns suffered an 84-72 loss to Southeastern Oklahoma State in the first round of the Great American Conference Tournament on Friday.
As a result, West Texas A&M University surpassed Arkansas Tech and claimed the final at-large berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament South Central Regional.
The Golden Suns finished their season with an overall record of 22-4. They were regular season champions of the Great American Conference.
Arkansas Tech had four seniors — forwards Natalia Santos, Samanta Ludwig, Katie Horsman and Lindsey Root — on its women’s basketball roster this season. Their senior class contributed to 83 wins and two NCAA Division II South Region championships over the past three seasons.
