Golden Suns, Cotton Blossoms Split Twin Bill

Game One: UAM 2, Arkansas Tech 1 UA-Monticello’s Katie Slaughter emerged victorious in a pitchers’ duel and led the Cotton Blossoms to a 2-1 victory in Sunday’s first game. Slaughter (7-1) limited Arkansas Tech to one run on two hits over seven innings. UAM led 2-0 going to the bottom of the seventh and final inning. Kambri Hill led off the Suns’ last turn at bat with a home run. Tech put the tying run on base after Samantha Herweck drew a walk, but Slaughter was able to induce a pop out and a pair of fielder’s choices to end the game. Tech starting pitcher Victoria Huie (5-2) was charged with two runs on six hits while pitching a complete game. Sydney Tipton and Allison Stipes had one run batted in apiece for the Cotton Blossoms. Game Two: Arkansas Tech 8, UAM 4 Whitney Robinson and Shanna Davidson provided Arkansas Tech with some thunder from the lower third of the batting order in an 8-4 Golden Suns’ victory in the nightcap on Sunday. Robinson, hitting seventh in the order, went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. From the ninth spot in the order, Davidson went 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs. Jalissa Gum and Alex Edinger added two base hits apiece for Arkansas Tech. Morgan Vaughan (4-1) earned the win in the circle. She allowed four runs, one of which was earned, on five hits in seven innings. UAM starting pitcher McKenzie Ashby (4-1) took the loss. She surrendered four runs, three of which were earned, on eight hits in three and one-third innings. The Cotton Blossoms fell to 15-4 overall and 7-1 in the GAC with the loss.]]>
