Nationally fifth-ranked Arkansas Tech University completed a four-game Great American Conference softball series sweep of the University of Arkansas-Monticello Cotton Blossoms by winning twice at Blossoms Field in Monticello on Sunday.
The Golden Suns (36-3 overall, 24-2 GAC) defeated UAM 7-0 and 6-3 to extend their winning streak to nine games.
Arkansas Tech will host Southern Arkansas University for a four-game GAC series at the Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex in Russellville on Friday, April 8, and Saturday, April 9.
First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday. Radio station KCAB 97.1 FM/980 AM and www.arkansastechsports.com will have live coverage.
Game One: Tech 7, UAM 0
Jalissa Gum pitched a three-hit shutout and hit two home runs to lead Arkansas Tech to a 7-0 victory over UA-Monticello in Sunday’s first game.
Gum (13-1) struck out 10 Cotton Blossoms and walked just one over seven innings of work. She hit two-run home runs in the first and third innings to give the Golden Suns a 4-0 lead.
Ashley Savage added a two-run home run in the fourth inning and Sarah Coronado drew a bases-loaded walk in the sixth inning to provide Arkansas Tech with its final margin of victory.
Kendra Coleman (10-9) started in the circle for the Cotton Blossoms and allowed seven runs on nine hits in seven innings.
Game Two: Tech 6, UAM 3
Destiny Crumpley’s two-run home run in the fifth inning gave Arkansas Tech the lead for good in a 6-3 win over UA-Monticello in game two Sunday.
Crumpley’s shot over the left-field fence broke a 3-3 tie. She added an run-scoring single in the seventh inning to set what proved to be the final score.
A freshman from Little Elm, Texas, Crumpley finished the game 4-for-4 with four runs batted in.
Kambri Hill notched a solo home run and Gaby Vasquez had an RBI single for the Golden Suns.
Tech’s Morgan Vaughan (14-0) went the distance at pitcher. She limited the Cotton Blossoms to three runs, two of which were earned, on seven hits in seven innings.
UAM starting pitcher Paisley Pratt (2-3) took the loss. She surrendered five runs on eight hits in four and one-third innings.
