Golden Suns Climb to No. 11 in Country

Arkansas Tech will enter the postseason ranked No. 11 in the USA Today/ESPN NCAA Division II women’s basketball top 25 poll.

The Golden Suns (22-3) advanced two positions in this week’s rankings, which were released on Tuesday, Feb. 28, by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.

Arkansas Tech has now been ranked in 43 consecutive USA Today/ESPN NCAA Division II women’s basketball top 25 polls (including preseason polls).

The Golden Suns entered the rankings at No. 24 on Dec. 8, 2009, and they have been included in every poll since — the final 13 polls of the 2009-10 season, all 16 of the 2010-11 polls and all 14 polls so far in 2011-12.

Arkansas Tech clinched the Great American Conference regular season championship by defeating Southern Arkansas 93-58 on Saturday. It was the Golden Suns’ 11th consecutive win and it helped punctuate the 22nd conference championship in the 35-year history of Arkansas Tech intercollegiate women’s basketball.

The Golden Suns will face Southeastern Oklahoma State in the first round of the GAC Tournament at Bruin Fieldhouse in Bartlesville, Okla., on Friday, March 2.

Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. The game can be heard on KWKK 100.9 FM and www.athletics.atu.edu.
