Golden Suns Breeze Past NWOSU 81-35

Arkansas Tech University took control early and never let go in an 81-35 Great American Conference women’s basketball victory over Northwestern Oklahoma State University at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville on Saturday afternoon.

The nationally 25th-ranked Golden Suns (2-1 overall, 1-1 GAC) scored 19 unanswered points over the final 8:09 of the first quarter to claim a 22-2 lead after one period.

Arkansas Tech led 44-18 at halftime and 58-25 after three quarters as it bounced back from a rare home loss to Southwestern Oklahoma State University on Thursday.

“It started (Friday) at practice,” said Tech head coach Dave Wilbers. “We have a good practice and really worked on the things we felt like we needed to after Thursday night. We were much more active today.”

Kelsey McClure notched 11 points and eight rebounds for the Golden Suns. Anissa Pounds and D’Rae Tullock had 10 points apiece for Tech. Pounds dished out eight assists.

Cheyenne North contributed eight points and a game-high 10 rebounds to help the Golden Suns finish with a 47-24 rebounding edge.

Arkansas Tech forced the Lady Rangers into 27 turnovers. The Suns held a 26-6 advantage in points off turnovers.

Jaylan Robinson scored 10 points for Northwestern Oklahoma State (0-4, 0-2).

The Golden Suns will host Oklahoma Christian University for a 5:30 p.m. non-conference game at Tucker Coliseum on Tuesday, Nov. 22.
