Aces All Around: Suns Roll Past Bulldogs

Arkansas Tech served up nine aces on its way to a straight sets win over the Southwestern Oklahoma State Bulldogs in Great American Conference volleyball at Rankin Williams Fieldhouse in Weatherford, Okla., on Friday night.

The Golden Suns (21-3 overall, 8-0 GAC) maintained sole possession of first place in the conference standings with a 25-21, 26-24, 25-15 victory.

Amber Cerrillos had three service aces to lead Arkansas Tech’s attack in that category.

Laura Farney and Marcela Mascarenhas recorded two aces apiece, while Sara Motsinger and Brennae Benda (photographed) both had one.

Farney added 14 kills against zero attack errors. Her hitting percentage for the match was .538, and she also contributed 10 digs.

Motsinger had 11 kills and three blocks, Cerrillos distributed 28 assists and Benda made 12 digs as Arkansas Tech remained undefeated in GAC volleyball play.

Adriana Rodriguez led Southwestern Oklahoma State (5-9, 3-5) with 11 kills.

The Golden Suns will host Ouachita Baptist for a 7 p.m. GAC match at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville on Tuesday, Oct. 11. No admission will be charged.

It will be “Wounded Warrior Night” at Tucker Coliseum. The Golden Suns will wear special red, white and blue jerseys, which will be auctioned after the match. All proceeds from the auction will go to the Wounded Warrior Project, a national initiative that is the primary charitable beneficiary for Arkansas Tech Athletics during the 2011-12 academic year.
