Golden Suns Complete Sweep of Lambuth

It wasn’t as easy as the first time around, but the nationally fifth-ranked Arkansas Tech Golden Suns completed a season sweep of the Lambuth Lady Eagles with a 69-39 victory at Pepper Bray Court in Jackson, Tenn., on Saturday.

The Golden Suns (7-1) used an 11-0 run midway through the second half to pull away for a 51-27 lead with 7:37 to go.

Natalia Santos sparked Tech’s decisive spurt with a layup at the 12:53 mark. She finished with 14 points and a season-high 13 rebounds for her second double-double of the season.

Katie Horsman (photographed) matched her season high with 10 points. Jessica Weatherford added eight points, while Jenny Vining notched seven points and a career-high seven steals for the Suns.

Tech’s Laura Beth Anderson contributed six points, four steals, three assists and three rebounds.

The Golden Suns had defeated Lambuth 107-60 on Nov. 20.

Defense was the key to Tech’s second win over the Lady Eagles. The Suns held Lambuth to 26 percent shooting from the field (14-of-55) and forced the Lady Eagles into 23 turnovers.

B.B. Brooks had 14 points and Sarah Collins recorded 13 points and 11 rebounds for Lambuth (1-6).

The Golden Suns will host Alabama-Huntsville on Thursday, Dec. 16, and North Alabama on Friday, Dec. 17, at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville. Tip-off both nights is set for 5:30 p.m.
