Girls of Promise Returns to Russellville

Eighth-grade girls from across the Arkansas River Valley will gather at Arkansas Tech University next month for the Girls of Promise Conference.

The conference is one of six hosted around the state and put on by the Women’s Foundation of Arkansas.  The conference at Arkansas Tech will take place on Saturday, February 5, and each conference is designed to introduce eighth-grade girls “to amazing women role models at a critical time” in their lives.

During the conference, sixty area girls will have the chance to participate in several workshops.  The girls will learn about career opportunities through hands-on experiences, meet local and state-wide women who excel in their careers and learn that it’s okay to be smart.

Organizers say the event helps “inspire girls to see the ‘big picture’ and prepare for their future” by focusing on career opportunities in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math.

This is the third year the conference has been held on the Arkansas Tech University campus, and organizers say they anticipate a great turnout.

The Women’s Foundation of Arkansas works to “promote philanthropy among women and to help women and girls achieve their full potential.”
