Girls of Promise Conference Today

Girls from around the River Valley will be at Arkansas Tech today for the annual Girls of Promise Conference.

The conference – the first of five hosted around the state and put on by the Women’s Foundation of Arkansas – introduces eighth-grade girls “to amazing women role models at a critical time” in their lives.

During the conference, area girls will learn about career opportunities through hands-on experiences, meet local and state-wide women who excel in their careers and learn that it’s okay to be smart. Organizers say the event helps “inspire girls to see the ‘big picture’ and prepare for their future” by focusing on career opportunities in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math.

This is the second year that a Girls of Promise Conference will be held at Arkansas Tech. Mrs. Jill Brown, first lady of Arkansas Tech, serves on the board for the Women’s Foundation of Arkansas and helped bring the conference to the River Valley.

The Women’s Foundation of Arkansas works to “promote philanthropy among women and to help women and girls achieve their full potential.”
