Genz Named Cliff Harris Award Finalist

Logan Genz of Arkansas Tech University has been selected as a finalist for the 2015 Cliff Harris Award, which will be presented to the top defensive player in NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA football.

Genz made 128 tackles, 12 tackles for a loss and two quarterback sacks while helping the Wonder Boys finish with a 9-3 overall record and a win in the C.H.A.M.P.S. Heart of Texas Bowl during the 2015 season.

A senior from West Fork, Genz completed his four-year career with an Arkansas Tech and Great American Conference record 480 tackles. He ranks fourth in NCAA Division II history in career tackles.

Genz is the only Arkansas Tech football player to ever record 100 or more tackles in four consecutive seasons.

Now in its third year, the Cliff Harris Award is sponsored by the Little Rock Touchdown Club and Wright Lindsey Jennings. The winner is selected from among more than 5,000 defensive players at the almost 500 universities at the NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA levels that sponsor football.

The award’s namesake played football at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia from 1966-69. Harris signed as an undrafted free agent with the Dallas Cowboys and became their starting free safety as a rookie in 1970.

Over the span of his 10-year career in Dallas, Harris appeared in the Super Bowl five times, won two world championships and was voted to the Pro Bowl six times. He was selected for the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame in 1985 and the Dallas Cowboys Ring of Honor in 2004.

The winner of the 2015 Cliff Harris Award will be announced on Dec. 24. That individual will be honored during the Little Rock Touchdown Club’s annual awards banquet in February 2016.
