Garrett, Calcatera Earn Top GAC Honors

Arkansas Tech University’s Luke Calcatera was selected Great American Conference coach of the year and Wonder Boy Jack Garrett was named GAC player of the year when the league office announced postseason conference honors in men’s golf on Thursday.

Calcatera earned the inaugural GAC men’s golf coach of the year award in his first season as Arkansas Tech head coach.

He led the Wonder Boys to eight top-five finishes during the 2011-12 campaign, including tournament victories at the Bison Fall Classic, the Midwestern State Invitational and the Mulerider Invitational. Arkansas Tech finished second at the GAC Championships earlier this week in Hot Springs.

Garrett had a scoring average of 73.3 over 20 competitive rounds this season. The sophomore from Fouke won the individual title at the Mulerider Invitational and had six top-10 finishes in 2011-12. He finished second in the GAC Championships.

Joining Garrett on the All-GAC team were fellow Arkansas Tech golf team members junior Parker Hale of Benton (first team), junior Graham Rucker of Hot Springs (second team) and sophomore Slade Hames of Rogers (honorable mention).
