GAC Names Gum Pitcher of the Week

Arkansas Tech University’s Jalissa Gum was named Great American Conference softball pitcher of the week on Monday, April 11.

The award marks the second consecutive week and the fourth time this season that Gum has earned a GAC weekly honor.

A right-handed junior from Red Rock, Okla., Gum pitched two shutouts against Southern Arkansas University at the Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex in Russellville over the weekend.

Gum tossed a one-hit shutout, striking out 14 Lady Muleriders over seven innings, in a 2-0 Golden Suns’ victory on Friday. She drove in both of the game’s runs with a triple in the bottom of the third inning.

On Saturday, Gum struck out 10 Lady Muleriders in a 1-0 Tech win. She extended her scoreless innings streak to 21 and two-thirds.

For the season, Gum is 15-1 with a 0.77 earned run average. She leads the GAC and ranks in the top 10 nationally in ERA.

The Golden Suns (38-5 overall, 28-4 GAC) will host Harding University for a GAC doubleheader at the Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex on Tuesday, April 12.
